Olivia hadn’t expected to meet anyone at her cousin’s 8th birthday party. It was a hot day in July when she struck up a conversation with Kai, a friend of the birthday boy. They had a nice chat, though she had no idea that Kai’s dad, Dorje, had noticed the two of them getting along. He introduced himself to Olivia, and they briefly got to know each other, unsure of where things might lead. She lived in Ohio, and he lived in New York. Yet, they felt such a strong connection that they decided to make a long-distance relationship work. Through countless flights and calls, they built their relationship across the miles. This April, Olivia moved to New York to officially be with her family—Dorje, Kai, and their two dogs.

They were married in early October with an intimate ceremony at their home in Chestnut Ridge, New York. Kai, a few close family members, and their beloved dogs joined them as they exchanged vows. It was a picture-perfect wedding day.
